I am entering day ???? of self-isolation. If you had asked me a month ago what I would be doing these days, staying at home doing burpees in my bedroom to curb the quarantine weight gain would not have been my answer.
But during these unprecedented times, we have to take a second to stop and smell the coffee. If you are able to be at home, safe and surrounded by your loved ones, then you are winning. We too often spend time complaining about how little time we have and now it seems like we are complaining about having TOO much time. I guess we humans are never really satisfied? But during the abundance of time we seem to be given now, we can use it to make vital and valuable changes to our lives. This could mean having the time to dive into your creative side, clean that vanity you haven’t touched in months years, practice mindfulness, finally finish that home improvement project you’ve been pushing off, or touch up on your languages (duolingo is poppin’ right now). We really have no excuse not to get these things done now. It’s literally as if the universe is giving us all a “free pass” to reconnect with ourselves and those most important to us (even if that cannot be face to face, face-time can make a world of a difference). But hey, it’s a scary time so if you aren’t too motivated right now to do anything other than wake up and brush your teeth, don’t be so hard on yourself. You’ll know when it’s time for you to get moving again. Just take it day by day.
Of course, the financial stress of being laid off at this time can seem super overwhelming, or still HAVING to go into work because you are on the front line can be anxiety inducing. So we should take a second to breathe and be thankful for the companies that made the hard decision to close to protect their staff and thankful for the front line workers putting their lives in the midst of the battle to help advance our knowledge of this virus, to help combat this virus, and to help all of us staying at home sustain our lives.
So, what have I been up to? Well during the first week of quarantine, I, like most of us, lounged around (in my pajamas) all day and night. I watched all of my favourite shows, I ate all of my quarantine snacks, drank a couple bottles of wine and then, suddenly, when I entered day 5 of self-isolation I was hit with a huge DOSE of reality: holy shit…this is the way it is going to be for a little while. Insert panic. But after all that, I settled down and realized I needed to get back into a normal, healthy routine, albeit slightly different than a month ago. Insert waking up around 9am. Insert having a healthy breakfast (no more handful of Oreos). Insert bedroom workouts and running outside. Insert reconnecting with the world and what I love (from a safe distance). Insert copious amounts of cooking. To see the delicious things I’ve been cooking up, follow me on Instagram @saassyvaassy and keep an eye on my stories.
Whatever you are doing during these weird times; whether you’re working from home, or cleaning furiously, or binging all the Netflix and reading all the books, or even just finding the motivation to get out of bed, I hope you are staying safe and healthy. This too shall pass, and then we can head on out again and enjoy a delicious cocktail or meal (or both) with those we’ve been missing the entire time.
Cheers!
